Thankglow — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
Thankglow is a gratitude journal for Android and iPhone, made by Patrick Kaitazoff ("we"). This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: what you write stays on your phone, there is no account, we do not sell anything, and the only thing that can reach us is anonymous usage and error data, which you can turn off.
1. What stays on your phone
Everything you put in Thankglow is stored only on your device, inside the app's private storage:
- the good things, notes, intentions and answers you write;
- the photos you add (Thankglow keeps its own copy and removes the location where the photo was taken);
- the people you add (the names you type and the color you pick);
- your settings: your name, the firefly's name, reminders, language and appearance.
We never receive any of this. There is no Thankglow account and no Thankglow server that stores your journal.
2. Optional copy in your Google Drive
If you turn on the Drive copy, Thankglow saves a copy of your journal (and, if you choose, your photos) in your own Google Drive, in a hidden folder that only Thankglow can see (Google's drive.appdata permission). Thankglow cannot see any of your other Drive files.
- The copy goes directly from your phone to Google. It never passes through us.
- Thankglow also reads the email address of the Google account, only to show you which account holds the copy.
- You can delete the copy and turn it off from Settings › Your data. You can also remove Thankglow's access from your Google account (myaccount.google.com › Security › Third-party apps).
- On iPhone, Google shows its own screen to choose the account and allow access to that folder. It is not a Thankglow account: it is only for the copy.
- Google's handling of that data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
On iPhone, iCloud Backup: if you have iCloud Backup turned on, iOS includes Thankglow's data in your phone's backup, like any other app. That backup is handled by Apple under your Apple Account; we never receive it. Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
3. Anonymous usage and errors (optional)
To find bugs and learn which parts of the app help people, Thankglow can send anonymous usage data. The setting is "Help improve Thankglow" in Settings › Privacy.
What is sent:
- which screens are opened and which actions are taken, from a fixed list (for example: "a good thing was saved, with a photo: yes/no");
- error reports: the technical error message and where in the app's code it happened;
- technical details about the device and the app: app version, system version (Android or iOS), device model, language and screen size;
- a random identifier created for this installation, so that events from the same phone can be grouped. It is not linked to your name, email, Google account or advertising ID.
What is never sent: what you write, the names of people, your name, the firefly's name, your photos, your contacts or your location. Events can only carry fixed values (yes/no, small numbers or words from a list), never free text.
Who processes it: PostHog (posthog.com), in its European Union cloud (Frankfurt), acting as our service provider. IP addresses are discarded and not used to locate you. PostHog's privacy policy: https://posthog.com/privacy
Your choice:
- On Android outside Europe, this setting is on by default. You can turn it off at any time.
- On iPhone (in every country), and on Android in the European Union, the rest of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, nothing is sent until you say yes. The app asks after your 7th day of writing. Until then, the events stay only on your phone; if you say no, they are deleted.
- Turning it off stops all sending (including error reports) and deletes the events not yet sent.
Because this data is anonymous and not linked to you, we cannot look it up by person. We use it only to fix errors and improve the app, and we keep it no longer than needed for that.
4. Permissions
- Notifications: for the reminders you set. They are created on the phone itself; no server is involved. You can answer a reminder from the notification (on iPhone, answering opens the app), and the answer is saved on your phone.
- Photos: Thankglow uses the system photo picker (Android's or iOS's), so it only sees the photos you choose. It has no access to the microphone or the rest of your photo library.
- Camera: to take a photo for a good thing. On Android, Thankglow opens the system camera and receives only the photo you take. On iPhone, iOS asks you for permission first; you can say no and still use everything else.
- Lock (optional): fingerprint or PIN on Android; Face ID, Touch ID or passcode on iPhone. It is handled by the system: Thankglow only receives "unlocked" or "not unlocked" and never receives your fingerprint, face data or code.
- Internet: only for the Drive copy and the anonymous usage data described above.
5. Sharing and backup files
When you share something (for example, a question to send to someone) or save the text version of your journal, your phone shows you where to send it, and it goes only where you choose. What happens to it there is up to that app or service.
6. What we do not do
- No ads and no advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell, rent or trade any data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No account, no sign-up, no email required.
7. Deleting your data
- On your phone: uninstalling Thankglow deletes everything it stored. Before that, if you want to keep your journal, turn on the Drive copy or save the text version (Settings › Your data).
- In Drive: delete the copy from Settings › Your data, or from Google Drive's settings (Manage apps › Thankglow › Delete hidden app data).
- Usage data: turn off "Help improve Thankglow".
- In iCloud (iPhone): Thankglow's data in your iCloud Backup is managed from your iPhone's Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Backups.
8. Children
Thankglow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The app does not ask for age or any personal identification.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or Uruguay's Law 18.331), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. Since your journal is only on your phone or in your own Drive, you control it directly. For anything else, write to us at the address below.
10. Changes
If Thankglow starts handling data in a new way, we will update this policy before that change reaches the app, and change the date above.

- las cosas buenas, notas, intenciones y respuestas que escribes;
- las fotos que agregas (Thankglow guarda su propia copia y le quita la ubicación donde se sacó);
- las personas que agregas (el nombre que escribes y el color que eliges);
- qué pantallas se abren y qué acciones se hacen, de una lista cerrada (por ejemplo: "se guardó una cosa buena, con foto: sí/no");
- informes de errores: el mensaje técnico del error y en qué parte del código de la app pasó;
- datos técnicos del dispositivo y la app: versión de la app, versión del sistema (Android o iOS), modelo del teléfono, idioma y tamaño de pantalla;
